Macoby Run Golf Course is one of those gems from the golf days of old where a farmer decided to stop his farming operation and use his farm to serve everyone's sporting enjoyment not their hunger satisfaction.
Macoby Run was an operating farm of crops and cattle. The farm was owned and operated by Floyd Hersh and his family who moved to this property in 1919. As farmers found it increasingly difficult to provide for their families in the farming industry, in 1964 Floyd Hersh made the decision to make his living in the construction industry. Farming became his hobby.
One hobby Floyd never boasted about much back in the day was his love of golf. Remember that golf in those days was only for the elite and not many blue color workers played the game. So Floyd never boasted much of his dream to one day turn his own farm into an 18 hole golf course. As a farmer, Floyd had the opportunity to travel the surrounding counties and inspect various farm properties. In his travels during the 1960’s he began to see farms being plowed into fairways and not crops. It wasn’t until nearly 30 years later that Floyd would see that very scenario at his own farm.
Through nothing but hard work and determination Floyd’s dream finally became a reality in 1990. Macoby Run Golf Course opened 9 holes in September of 1990. A few months later the round was increased to 12 holes and by Spring of 1991 the full 18 hole golf course was born.
Floyd Hersh passed away in September of 2000 but his family still resides on the farm, his construction company still operates at its’ original location on the farm and his family continues his dream of owning and operating the 18 hole golf course which was his brainchild.

Located in Green Lane, PA, Macoby is a bit out of the way for most. As such, it's a great public course that's not a guaranteed 5+ hour round like many public courses. Course is scenic and offers a nice challenge. Great course to walk. Family ownership is friendly and the price is right.
